- A two–man mission from the Africa Development Bank (ADB) is in Freetown to undertake a Mid-term review of the Social Action Support Project (SASP).
The project implemented by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), provides for multi-sectoral, socio-economic infrastructures and support to the Commission’s Micro-finance Programme.

- A total of seventeen completed socio- economic infrastructures have been handed over to communities in the Kenema district.
The projects in ten chiefdoms, comprise six health centres, three markets and court barriers each , two primary schools and two rice processing facilities, as well as a nutrition programme.

24th January, 2008 - The Rural Infrastructure Development Programme (RIDP) at the National Commission for social action (NaCSA), has handed- over sites for constructing civil rural infrastructures in the northern region.
The sites at Makeni, Kabala, Magburaka, Kambia, and Por Loko, in the region’s five districts, will be utilized for constructing Markets, Community Centres, as well as Regional and District Libraries.

Launches Small Business Fund

- The first in a series of workshops to
promote the Innovation Fund for small-scale
business cooperatives has been held in Kailahun
town, Kailahun District. The workshop brought
together small businesses to brainstorm
and develop new and innovative ideas for
implementation, as part of the Pro-poor
Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPC) programme
at the National Commission for Social Action
(NaCSA). The GPC also involves construction
of socio-economic infrastructures and capacity
building for Local Councils in Kailahun,
Koinadugu and Pujehun districts, as well
as the Rural Western Area.

- Two new markets have been completed and
handed over to the people of Kissi-Tongi
and Luawa Chiefdoms in the Kailahun district.
The markets at Buedu and Kailahun towns
were constructed through the Public Works
Programme (PWP) of the National Commission

Social Action Support Project (SASP). The
occasion was marked by a one-day Agricultural
Field Day and Trade Fair to enhance the
Government’s Food Security drive in

- Parliamentarians have benefited from a
pre-legislative hearing of the Refugee Bill
being considered for adoption by Parliament.
Organized by the Relief and Resettlement
Directorate of the National Commission for

furtherance of the process of enacting the
refugee bill, through a series of capacity
building and sensitization workshops jointly
organized by NaCSA and UNHCR for government

Community Gets New School

units provided by the Norwegian Friends
of Sierra Leone (NFSL) a Non – Governmental
Organization and the National Commission

shelter units at Bo, Mattru-on- the –
Rail and Kailahun town are part of a pilot
project to be extended to other parts of

Volunteers Graduate

- The second batch of NaCSA Peace and Development
Corps (PADCO) have successfully completed
two years of volunteerism, at various institutions
in the country. The fourteen young college
graduates in various disciplines of study
were trained and attached to line ministries,
Local NGOs, the Blind School and School
for the Deaf and Dumb. At a Certificate
Presentation Ceremony, marking the end of
the volunteers engagemnt, NaCSA’s
Deputy Commissioner Justin Bangura, said
the PADCO Programme is seeking to build
the capacities of the volunteers for permanent
employment and the institutions to which
they are attached for greater efficiency.

two Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Posts
at Hamilton and Mabureh, and a Market at

recently commenced work to implement programmes
targeting war victims. The Taskforce, which
comprises NaCSA as chair, UNIOSIL Human
Rights Section, Forum of Conscience, Chairman
of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission
(TRC) and the Representative of the war
victims has already held a series of preliminary
consultations to chart the way forward. |

- The Chinese Ambassador ,Chen Wenju has
informed the NaCSA Commissioner about potentials
and possibilities for cooperation and collaboration
between his country and the National Commission

call on Commissioner Kanja Sesay at his
Office, Mr Chen Wenju paid glowing tribute
to the positive role NaCSA is playing in
