NaCSA Gives Economic Assets

21th February, 2008 - The National Commission for Social Action NaCSA has been commended for successfully implementing multi-sectoral projects and building social capital in Communities throughout the country. During discussions with NaCSA Commissioner Alhaji Kanja Sesay, World Bank Regional Director Ishac Diwan said he was on a familiarization visit to the five countries he represents, namely, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

21st February, 2008 - A two–man mission from the Africa Development Bank (ADB) is in Freetown to undertake a Mid-term review of the Social Action Support Project (SASP). The project implemented by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), provides for multi-sectoral, socio-economic infrastructures and support to the Commission’s Micro-finance Programme.

   

NaCSA Boosts Kenema District

15th February, 2008 - A total of seventeen completed socio- economic infrastructures have been handed over to communities in the Kenema district. The projects in ten chiefdoms, comprise six health centres, three markets and court barriers each , two primary schools  and two rice processing facilities, as well as a nutrition programme.

24th January, 2008 - The Rural Infrastructure Development Programme (RIDP) at the National Commission for social action (NaCSA), has handed- over sites for constructing civil rural infrastructures in the northern region. The sites at  Makeni, Kabala, Magburaka, Kambia, and Por Loko, in the region’s five districts, will be utilized for constructing Markets, Community Centres, as well as Regional and District Libraries.

16th October, 2007 - Communities in Pujehun District have been strengthened by the Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation Project (GPC) of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The one-day sensitization workshop at the Pujehun Community Centre focused on widening the development initiatives of communities to prioritize, implement and manage their own programmes.

29th June, 2007 - The State Award of Grand Commander of the Republic has recently been dedicated to staff of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The award made to NaCSA Commissioner Alhaji Kanja Sesay by President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah was in recognition of his role and leadership in the country's post-war recovery.

   

NaCSA Launches Small Business Fund

27th June, 2007 - The first in a series of workshops to promote the Innovation Fund for small-scale business cooperatives has been held in Kailahun town, Kailahun District. The workshop brought together small businesses to brainstorm and develop new and innovative ideas for implementation, as part of the Pro-poor Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPC) programme at the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The GPC also involves construction of socio-economic infrastructures and capacity building for Local Councils in Kailahun, Koinadugu and Pujehun districts, as well as the Rural Western Area.

22nd June, 2007 - The people of Gbanti Kamaranka Chiefdom in the Bombali District are beneficiaries of four Community Projects undertaken by Government, through the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The two Primary Schools at Kambia and Makulon Sections, the market at Kamaranka Section and the bridge at Royeima were implemented through NaCSA’s Community Driven Programme (CDP), jointly funded by Government and the World Bank. Reparations Task Force Reports

15th June, 2007 - The Reparation Task Force Committee has presented a report of on the implementation of Reparation programme to Vice-President Solomon Berewa. The Reparations Programme for war victims was recommended by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) with the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) as implementing Agency.

Two New Markets for Kailahun District

29th March, 2007 - Two new markets have been completed and handed over to the people of Kissi-Tongi and Luawa Chiefdoms in the Kailahun district. The markets at Buedu and Kailahun towns were constructed through the Public Works Programme (PWP) of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) as part of its Social Action Support Project (SASP). The occasion was marked by a one-day Agricultural Field Day and Trade Fair to enhance the Government’s Food Security drive in the district.

   

New School Market for Kono District

20th March, 2007 - Three newly completed projects have been handed over to the people of Kono District in the Eastern Region. The two schools in Gbane Chiefdom and a market in Toli Chiefdom were undertaken by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), through its Community-Driven Programme which empowers communities to take the lead in implementing socio-economic projects.

   

Refugee Bill in Parliament

13th March, 2007 - Parliamentarians have benefited from a pre-legislative hearing of the Refugee Bill being considered for adoption by Parliament. Organized by the Relief and Resettlement Directorate of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA), the hearing is in furtherance of the process of enacting the refugee bill, through a series of capacity building and sensitization workshops jointly organized by NaCSA and UNHCR for government line ministries, civil society groups and judges both within and outside the country.

Kissy Community Gets New School

28th February, 2007 - The people of Kissy in the Eastern part of Freetown now have a new school to cater for disadvantaged children. The eight classroom Marie Vandi Community primary school constructed by the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) has already been commissioned and handed over by the President Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah.

   

New Houses for Amputees and War-Wounded

28th February, 2007 - Amputees and War Wounded in Bo and Kailahun Districts have benefited from new shelter units provided by the Norwegian Friends of Sierra Leone (NFSL) a Non – Governmental Organization and the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The twenty family shelter units at Bo, Mattru-on- the – Rail and Kailahun town are part of a pilot project to be extended to other parts of the country.

   

PADCO Volunteers Graduate

15th February, 2007 - The second batch of NaCSA Peace and Development Corps (PADCO) have successfully completed two years of volunteerism, at various institutions in the country. The fourteen young college graduates in various disciplines of study were trained and attached to line ministries, Local NGOs, the Blind School and School for the Deaf and Dumb. At a Certificate Presentation Ceremony, marking the end of the volunteers engagemnt, NaCSA’s Deputy Commissioner Justin Bangura, said the PADCO Programme is seeking to build the capacities of the volunteers for permanent employment and the institutions to which they are attached for greater efficiency.

   

Big Boost for Western Rural Areas

15th February, 2007 - Three Communities in the Western Area Rural District are benefiting from Social infrastructures provided through the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). The two Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Posts at Hamilton and Mabureh, and a Market at Grafton are being constructed with funds jointly provided by the Government of Sierra Leone and the World Bank, with the Beneficiary Communities contributing local materials and unskilled labour.

The discussion in Freetown took place against the background of the successful implementation of a major psycho-social project by Handicap International and exploring a partnership on social integration and income generation projects.

Reperation Task Force Begins

27th January, 2007 - The multi-stakeholder Task Force on Reparation recently commenced work to implement programmes targeting war victims. The Taskforce, which comprises NaCSA as chair, UNIOSIL Human Rights Section, Forum of Conscience, Chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) and the Representative of the war victims has already held a series of preliminary consultations to chart the way forward.

   

Chinese Ambassador Visits NaCSA Commissioner

23rd January, 2007 - The Chinese Ambassador ,Chen Wenju has informed the NaCSA Commissioner about potentials and possibilities for cooperation and collaboration between his country and the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA). During a courtesy call on Commissioner Kanja Sesay at his Office, Mr Chen Wenju paid glowing tribute to the positive role NaCSA is playing in rebuilding Sierra Leone after the war.
